Richmond, Virginia

Richmond, VA is an amazing city surrounded by Henrico County in Central Virginia. Richmond is an international destination with a rich history and a natural beauty that some say rivals that of the most scenic places in the world. Richmonders are known for their intelligence and wit, and infuse daily life in the city with a Southeastern warmth and charm.
Among the many famous Americans who have called Richmond their place of birth and first home are actress, Shirley MacLaine, writer Tom Wolfe, actor Warren Beatty, and tennis great Arthur Ashe. Political figures that have made homes in the greater Richmond area over its long and decorated history include everyone from Pocahontas to Patrick Henry, from Nat Turner to Sam Houston, from Robert E. Lee to Woodrow Wilson, our 28th President.
Richmond is a beautiful riverfront town located on the banks of the James River. Richmond is a major city situated in natural surroundings. In fact, Richmond is home to Class IV rapids within the city limits. Among Richmond's beautiful attractions is the one-and-a-quarter mile Canal Walk, a stone-paved historical journey through Richmond's canal system, which was the first canal system in the United States. Richmond locals and those lucky enough to call it home know The Canal Walk as both a popular jogging route and a beautiful self-guided tour of Virginia's place in 400 years of American history. Richmond houses innumerable historic buildings dating back to the 17th century. Indeed, America itself began in Virginia, and Richmond was home to settlers not long after Jamestown. In the surrounding countryside near modern day Richmond, historic plantation houses and other legendary pieces of real estate dot the landscape.
Among the cultural events that call Richmond, VA home are the National Folk Festival, the 17th St Farmer's Market and its eclectic mix of local vendors and local produce, and The Brunswick Stew Festival, which draws competitors from all over the South. The arts and music communities housed in Richmond are known internationally, from Edgar Allan Poe, to The Carter Family and Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, to David Lowery, Richmond's contributions to the history of art and music are massive indeed.
Richmond is surrounded by a huge number of Virginia's beautiful golf courses, is host to NASCAR racing, minor league baseball in the form of the R-Braves, and the collegiate athletic exploits of VCU and nearby UVA.
The number of excellent restaurants that call Richmond home is overwhelming. If one were to begin a neighborhood by neighborhood tour, starting with the historic taverns and hotel dining in Shockoe Slip and working one's way slowly west to the bustle of the epicurean wonderland of Carytown, it might take years to fully enjoy everything Richmond dining has to offer.
Many families call Richmond home, which is no surprise because Richmond and the surrounding area houses a public school system that is acclaimed on the national level. Recently, the Governor's School for International Studies, a prestigious public high school in Richmond, was named one of America's Public Elites by Newsweek for a second year running. Richmond home owners are happy to enjoy a cost of living that is about 15% less than the national average, and almost 20% less than the state average, and have a high level of satisfaction with having invested in real estate in what is truly an incredible place to be able to call home.
