Round Rock General Information

Round Rock, Texas is one of the fastest growing communities in the United States. In 1970, the city had a population of less than 3,000 individuals, which has increased to more than 90,000 individuals today. Round Rock, Texas is located in Williamson Country and is considered to be a part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The city is located about 17 miles north of the city of Austin, Texas and encompasses nearly 27 square miles.[AD]The city was named the 13th safest city in the nation in early 2007, and was also voted one of the best places to relocate and one of the best 100 places for young people due to the city's focus on education and low high school dropout rates. The city was named for the round rock that indicated to travelers where a ford in the nearby Brushy Creek was located. This rock was used as a marker for wagon crossings and for driving cattle across the water.

The headquarters of Dell Inc. s corporate offices are located in Round Rock, Texas. Other major employers in the area include Cypress Semiconductor and Farmers Insurance Group.
