General Information

Port Arthur, Texas real estate is much desired due to its location on the western bank of the beautiful Sabine Lake, located in the southeastern portion of Texas. This salt water estuary formed at the joining of the Sabine River and Neches River is around 90,000 acres in size and is a popular fishing and water sport destination for
residents from miles around. The climate of the area is considered mild for most of the year with the high temperatures in the summer averaging around 92ºF and high temperatures in the winter averaging about 43ºF.
The city of Port Arthur has a population of nearly 60,000 individuals and encompasses a total area of 144 square miles. Founded in the late 1800's, the city has experienced steady growth throughout the years, fueled by periods of population booms where many individuals choose to move to the area for employment or relocation reasons. This has happened numerous times in the history of the city, adding a diverse culture to the region. The city is served by the Southeast Texas Regional Airport located in the nearby city of Nederland.

Economy

The city of Port Arthur is located within the Beaumont-Port Arthur metropolitan area. At one time, the city was at the center of the biggest oil refinery network in the world. Currently, the city is in the midst of an economic boom as many new construction projects are taking place and new businesses are moving into the area. The completion of the projects that have already begun is estimated to add thousands of jobs to the local economy.
The two largest projects at the moment involve the energy infrastructure and have received initial investments of over $2 billion dollars. The oil refining industry also has a large presence in the area and many installations are being revitalized to cope with the larger production capacity needed by the nation.
Port Arthur housing includes nearly 25,000 housing units located throughout the city and nearly 3,000 of these housing units are available for purchase at any one time. The homes in the city are created in a number of distinctive styles, but a majority of the homes in the area use the Mission or Spanish revival styles to blend into the natural allure of the region. The average price for a single family home in the area is around $95,000. Many individuals who have purchased Port Arthur homes are employed within the city or commute to neighboring Beaumont for employment.

Lifestyle

The arts have always been important to the individuals of Port Arthur. This one time home of singing legend Janis Joplin has produced a number of singers, dancers, musicians, actors, and individuals associated with the film industry. The city has also been the home of many sports legends over the years, including Jimmy Johnson, Stephen Jackson, and "Babe" Didrikson Zaharias, an Olympic gold medalist. Many of these individuals are immortalized in the Museum of the Gulf Coast in the downtown portion of the city.
