General Information

Because of its location in the Gulf Coast region of the state, the climate of the city is generally hot and humid with an average high temperature of 94ºF in the summers and warm and mild with an average high of 61ºF in the winter. The city is bordered by the San Jacinto River to the north and Galveston Bay to the southeast. Pasadena has also been known as the "Strawberry Capital of the World" due to the millions of strawberry plants the flourished in the area in the mid-1900s. The city still holds an annual strawberry festival to celebrate this part of their history.

Economy

The economy of Pasadena, Texas is closely linked to the economy of neighboring Houston, particularly the Houston Ship Channel and related industries. Employment and tourism at NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center also injects capital into the economy of the city. The petroleum industry also has a large presence in the area, due to the
large number of oil refineries that are stationed along the Houston Ship Channel. These refineries help to make Houston and the neighboring areas the largest petrochemical complex in the United States.
Pasadena, Texas housing is comprised of over 50,000 housing units, of which 4,000 may be on the market at any given time. A large number of the housing units are single family homes located in lovely, quiet neighborhoods. Other types of housing in the area include apartments and luxury homes. A large number of the individuals that reside in the area either work in the city or commute to nearby Houston for employment. The city of Pasadena prides itself as a culture center for the region. There are a number of museums located in the area, including the Bay Area Museum, the Pasadena Historical Museum, and the Armand Bayou Nature Center. The city is also the home of the Pasadena Little Theatre, a community theatre that provides numerous performances for residents and visitors throughout the year. The Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo is also hosted in the city each year and is one of the largest rodeos in the area. Individuals that wish to see national acts and world class entertainment can travel to nearby Houston for an evening of fun.
