Mechanicsville, Virginia

Mechanicsville, VA is a diverse area at the east end of Hanover County that is located seven miles northeast of Richmond and twelve miles northwest of Richmond International Airport. Mechanicsville is a strong mix of subdivisions, beautiful rural landscapes, and shopping hot spots that draw visitors from all over the greater Richmond area.
Whether it's groceries, home supply, fashion, or gifts, home owners in Mechanicsville almost never have to leave the area for any of their shopping needs. There's Mechanicsville Shopping Center, Bowles Farm Plaza, Atlee Square, Hanover Square, and several other shopping centers and malls close to Mechanicsville homes. Cold Harbor Antique Mall on Mechanicsville Turnpike draws collectors from miles around, and locals flock to Pole Green Produce to buy the freshest local fruits and vegetables directly from the source.
Mechanicsville houses a large number of restaurants of many varieties. Local favorites include an auxiliary location of Richmond favorite Padow's Ham & Deli, and two of Mechanicville's seafood establishments: the acclaimed Calabash, and the nautically-themed Awful Arthur's, which has built its reputation on being home to Virginia's most extensive raw bar and is decorated to look like the inside of a ship.
Hanover County is known for its excellent public schools, and was recently named to the APA's 100 Best Communities For Young People (2007). Mechanicsville is a wonderful place for families because of the quantity of its quality public schools, including nine elementary schools, three middle schools, and three high schools that are all proud members of the acclaimed Hanover County Public School system. 
Mechanicsville has been growing by leaps and bounds, so much so that it has been recognized for that growth on the national level. In fact, Mechanicsville was ranked #54 in Money Magazine's Top Places To Live 2007, and recorded an astounding 25% job growth from 2000 to 2006.
