Originally settled during the latter part of the 19th century, Lakewood's early claim to fame was as a warm weather resort for the wealthiest citizens of Denver. The town continued to grow and became home to Colorado Christian University in 1914. Many years later, in 1941, the Remington Arms Company opened an ammunition manufacturing facility in the town.

Lakewood is a paradise for those who love the unique combination of the cultural advantages of big city life, small town charm, and the great outdoors. With its close proximity to Denver, Lakewood residents can take a short drive and enjoy all that big city life has to offer, then retreat to the suburban tranquility of Lakewood. One of Lakewood's notable characteristics is the enormous percentage of the city's land that is dedicated to outdoor recreational areas. Within this small community, there are approximately 6,500 acres of land dedicated to parks, which ranks Lakewood among the highest ratios of park land per person in the United States.

The Lakewood CO real estate market is comparable to that of other Denver area suburban communities, with an average single family home price of approximately $250,000. Properties in the area are appreciating at a rate of approximately 4% annually and the city's population has been relatively stable in recent history.
