Lakewood Colorado: Life on the Outskirts of Denver

Lakewood, Colorado is one of the most attractive places to live in the entire state of Colorado. A relatively small community, Lakewood is spread out over 44 square miles, right up next to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The city has a population of approximately 140,000 residents, and is located approximately seven miles from Denver and is located in Jefferson County.

History of Lakewood

Originally settled during the latter part of the 19th century, Lakewood's early claim to fame was as a warm weather resort for the wealthiest citizens of Denver. The town continued to grow, and became home to Colorado Christian University in 1914. Many years later, in 1941, the Remington Arms Company opened an ammunition manufacturing facility in the town. Lakewood was not actually incorporated until 1969, at which time the city's population was around 90,000.
