The community of Gunbarrel is located in the central northern part of Colorado. It lies just six miles away from the city of Boulder and twenty - eight miles from Denver. Its closest neighbor is the wonderful town of Niwot, and it also shares the same wonderful small town neighborhood feel as well. Gunbarrel is not an incorporated town, and Gunbarrel may be used to refer to several rural parts of the Boulder County. Gunbarrel is basically a satellite community of Boulder County, and has around 10,000 residents living in it.

The community was formed right after the construction of IBM's plant in the city. A 668 acre subdivision was constructed and shortly, more and more people came until the households numbered to 4,237.

There are also plenty of fun activities to do in Gunbarrel. One can play golf, walk, hike, bike, swim and play tennis at the Boulder Country Club. The country club also has two streams and lakes.

Gunbarrel has several subdivisions or neighborhoods, and the dominant ones include Country Club Estates, Island Greens and Gunbarrel Green.
