Larkspur, Colorado

Larkspur is a small community of around 320 people, and is located in Douglas County which is in the Denver - Aurora Metropolitan Area. The town sits right on the northern slope of the Pike National Forest.

The town started in 1862 when a territorial post office was established in the area (it was known as Huntsville back then). The post office was discontinued five years later in 1867, but was re - established another two years later. In 1871, the town's name was then changed to Larkspur. The town is believed to get its name from the wildflowers that have been growing in the area. Larkspur was incorporated just thirty years back in 1979.

What To Do In Larkspur

Larkspur has a whole lot of things to offer aside from spectacular views of the Front Range Foothills. The annual Renaissance Festival, which has been going on for 33 seasons already, is one thing residents and people from nearby cities look forward to.

Held during the summer, the town and the surrounding woods are transformed into a renaissance town complete with costumed characters, original artisan work, authentic food and real looking structures and streets. Jousts, musical performances, jesters and magicians are just some of the things to look out for during the Festival.

Larkspur has some ranch style bed and breakfasts and some lodging facilities for visitors, as well as a golf course. Shoppers will certainly have fun at the Prime Outlet Mall is just a few minutes south in Castle Rock.
