Should You Decorate Your For Sale Home For Halloween?

Halloween Home Decoration IdeasThere is nothing that says Halloween better than a decorative front entrance, fireplace, staircase, tabletop, or bathroom counter! And, if you are selling your home during the season, you should definitely consider putting up some festive Halloween“ish” decorations. Of course, I do not mean use terrifying or frightful decorations like corpses or bloody grotesque monsters, but instead use things like fun witches, lots of pumpkins, and other cute, simple PG-rated Halloween inspired fall decorations. The idea is to show that your for sale home has character and is a part of the greater community. Below are several of my favorite Halloween home decoration ideas that I think are great for a for sale home.

All Black and White - I love this one because it really doesn't matter what items you use as long as they are black and white. You can even go thrift shopping and find some awesome items then spray paint them all the same black and white. Try his with pumpkins, candle holders, goblets, picture frames, figurines, sticks, garland or whatever you can find and then lace some old fashion cob webs around them and call it done.

Ghoulish Trees - This is a great idea for any bare wall, front door, or pumpkin! Using paint is not a good idea so either use the store bought wall applique cutouts or create one out of a large piece of black paper. Use only one tree accompanied by black cat or use a few overlapping trees to create a haunted forest illusion!

Victorian Vintage Ghosts - This idea can be pulled off in variety of ways, but the key is it has to feel vintage. You can use framed black and white pictures of cool old homes or even pictures of your relatives if you have any. Also use a variety of things like different height candlestick holders, old lace doilies, cutouts of black crows, black roses, face skulls, and ghoulish wine bottles to finish the look.

Dia de Los Muertos - This is a fun bright colored Halloween theme that is great for homes that have a specific colorful flare. Things like sugar skulls, dancing skeletons, skeleton cowboys, Skelton brides and grooms, inferno dried hot chilies, Mexican corn, traditional Mexican death masks, bright colored candles, and bowls of candy can be used to create a spunky, fun, and artistic Halloween inspired fall decorations.

Nothing But Pumpkins - This idea is really simple in that you use nothing but different kinds pumpkins. Try using them along your front entrance, spilling out of your fireplace, group on your mantel, on your bedroom dressers, in your bathrooms, along the back fence, and as a centerpiece on your table to create a classy but traditional Halloween home decor.

Even though Halloween decorations need to be short lived, which means you must take them down no later than the weekend after Halloween, they convey a family friendly vibe to anyone showing the home during the weeks prior to Halloween. Decorative elements that are more fall related can stay up a bit longer as long as they remain in good condition. Imagine how boring your home would look next to your neighbors to a potential buyer if theirs was all done up and yours wasn’t. Again don’t go overboard, just use simple touches and pick a few key places in the home to decorate. That is unless you are planning to have a haunted open house!!! BWAHHHAHAHA!
