Life in Broomfield also offers tons of outdoor recreational opportunities, in addition to tons of city facilities. In fact, the welcome letter we received from the County when we bought our new house, stated that they are trying to maintain at least 40% open space. The Broomfield County Commons is a huge park project that extends from Sheridan to Lowell. The commons includes several sports fields, paved and gravel trails, a fishing lake, an awesome dog park, restrooms, and of course spectacular views. The commons are usually the place where the County and City hosts all their large outdoor events like their Fourth of July Festival.
The Broadlands Golf Course is a world class 18 hole course that offers a wide range of lifestyle opportunities. From their restaurant and events, to tournaments, clubs, instruction and facility amenities, this course attracts many active adults, as well as families and retirees. The homes surrounding the Broadlands are as diverse as the surrounding landscape is gorgeous. There are patio homes and luxury mansions, plus townhouses and single family homes all along the course.
The Orchards Town Center shopping area is located in the northeast corridor of the County, close to where a lot of new development is taking place. In addition there are several large ranch style properties in this area that offer tons of land as well. The Orchards is a high end outdoor mall with lots of restaurants, shops, department stores, a kids fountain and play area. They host events every season including summer concerts and carnivals.
The Bay Aquatic Center and the Paul Derta Recreation Center are two of the most popular city facilities in Broomfield. The Bay offers fun for all ages with a variety of waterslides and fountains. Usually packed during the summer months, they have swimming classes, group rates, a snack bar, locker rooms and camps. The Paul Derta Rec-Center is a state of the art facility that has a jogging track, fitness center, a gymnastics gymnasium, basketball courts, a rock climbing wall, free play area, lunch room, childcare, and adult/youth education programs.
