Baytown city is a small city in Texas located on the gulf side of the state. Not far from the Gulf of Mexico, this little city has many residents that love it for its convenient proximity to the beaches. One problem with being so close to the beaches is the hurricanes that come from the Gulf of Mexico. Baytown city is in the track of some hurricanes that come off of the Gulf, but for the most part they are far enough inland where there is only minor damage done. Baytown city has a population of just over 65,000 people. It is not a large place and does not have a huge commercial or industrial area to support it. Most of the people that live in this area usually work in Houston which is only 20 miles away from Baytown city.

That makes it the perfect place to live for many people that do not want to deal with the daily headache of downtown Houston. Baytown can provide a short commute to a job in the city and a short commute back home in the evening to the small town. The median income in the city was over $40,000 which is pretty decent for a city that small. Many Baytown residents work in Houston and commute. One reason that Baytown is popular is because it is the center of the eastern Houston area. It is the place that everyone on the eastern side of Houston goes to do their shopping. They have the largest mall as well as the regular "big-box" stores such as Lowes and Best Buy. Stores like these are a large source of employment for Baytown as well as the people in the eastern Houston area.

Things to do Baytown

Most of the people travel to Houston for entertainment because it is so close to the city, although Baytown does offer intimate events for the locals. Baytown also has a community college that offers two year degrees but does not have any larger colleges or universities. Although the town is small and does not have a lot to offer, it is perfect for the people who like peace and quiet but have to take jobs in a larger city. In a nutshell, if you want the conveneinces of a big city (Houston is the 4th largest city in the nation), but want small-town atmosphere, Baytown is only 20 minutes outside of Houston , and may be just what you're looking for.
