Arlington TX: History of the area

Arlington city is one of the most overlooked cities in Texas. Being so close to Dallas, the city loses much of its identity by being labeled as "just another Dallas Suburb". Especially since many of the ballparks
that are associated with Dallas are located there. But, the truth is that Arlington city is a magnificent city in its own right, and has thousands of things to offer to people traveling through or looking for a new place to call home.
The city was settled in the 1870's. The city was one of the first in the area to have electricity and water as early as the 1900's. It also became one of the states fastest growing areas in the 1950's when General Motors built a plant in the area. The boom continued through the 60's and 70's and according to the census of 2000, the city had an estimated population of over 376,000 people.
